Suzanne Van der Lingen ‘Ark’, The Joinery May 2011

For anyone who didn’t manage to see this fantastic show at the Joinery, here is a review I wrote for Paper Visual Art Journal. Definitely an artist to keep an eye on. Her website is here.

Also, in a discussion that took place in conjunction with Van der Lingen’s exhibition, a clip from Guy Maddin’s film My Winnipeg (2007) was shown at the Joinery. The film serves as an interesting and unlikely parallel to her work, which tackles notions of truth and the unreliability of memory. It’s also fairly hilarious. It appears to all be available on youtube, so definitely worth a watch. Here’s a fairly indicative clip – enjoy!
